Father Sidoti: Reevalutaion of his life and death
About 300 years ago, Father Sidoti(1668-1714), an Italian missionary, landed on the island of Yakushima after his five-year journey from Italy. In 2014, his remains were excavated in the planned construction site for a condominium building in Tokyo. This discovery triggered a research for the beatification of Father Sidoti by the Vatican.
In July of this year, Father Mario Toricivia, the president of the committee for beatification research, came to Japan, and a symposium entitled “Closing in on the secret of Father Sidoti” was held at Sophia University in Tokyo.
